The Roccat Titan Optical (Linear) is an optical linear gaming switch with a higher than usual actuation point (1.4mm) and shorter travel (3.6mm) compared to the competition at the time.
TL;DR
These optical switches are slightly lighter than their predecessor with its force curve being closer to the Gateron Yellow in terms of weighting unlike their predecessor which was closer in weighting to the Gateron Black.
This inherently isn’t a good or a bad thing as it purely depends on your personal preference, but it is nice to keep in mind before buying one of these keyboards. Also, as a quick reference point, the Cherry MX Red is lighter than any of these switches.
Smoothness: 9/10
On-centre keypresses are ultra-smooth with only very minor inconsistencies at extremely slow keypresses.
Off-centre keypresses are decently smooth with only minor inconsistencies at very slow keypresses.
Overall, these are smoother compared to its predecessor, but not significantly so. It really goes to show that traditional mechanical switches when designed right perform similarly to newer optical switches.
Weighting: 6/10
According to Roccat, these switches have an actuation point of 1.4mm and a total travel of 3.6mm.

Roccat Titan Optical (Linear) force curve.
As you can see from the force curve above, the Roccat Titan Optical (Linear) were within its outlined specs.

Roccat Titan Optical (Linear) consistency force curve.
They were also very consistent with neither of the three switches showing major deviations from one another. Although Switch 3 (black line) was slightly heavier compared to the other two.

Roccat Optical Linear vs. Roccat Linear force curve.
The above force curve shows a comparison between the Roccat Titan Optical (Linear) and its predecessor – the Roccat Titan (Linear). The optical switch is noticeably lighter, but in practice is quite similar in key feel.

Roccat Optical Linear vs. Gateron Yellow force curve.
The above force curve shows a comparison between the Roccat Titan (Linear) and the Gateron Yellow. This further shows that unlike its predecessor, the optical switch is closer in weighting to the Gateron Yellow as opposed to the Gateron Black which I compared its predecessor to.
Overall, this is a very consistent, high actuating, shorter travel, medium weighted switch. It’s what many gamers are looking for when shopping for a linear switch designed for gaming. I personally find it to be on the lighter side of things, and it would take a long time for me to get used to the high actuation point.
Sound: 4/10
Just like its predecessor, its sound suffers from the cheap keycaps and the rattily stabilizers. Also, the ping has returned – it’s only slight, but it is present.
Overall, sound was again not a top priority when Roccat was designing this keyboard.
Typing Performance: 6/10
They’re very smooth and very consistent, so they were pleasant to type on – just like its predecessor. However, despite them being smoother, I still made similar amounts of typos as they have the same high actuation point.
Overall, compared to its predecessor, the weighting isn’t actually the problem here, but rather the high actuation point. Then again, Roccat designed these switches for gaming, not typing.
Gaming Performance: 7/10
Just like its predecessor, they didn’t offer me an advantage in gaming. Although, as I’ve previously mentioned, I’m not an e-sports gamer, so there’s a chance that I just couldn’t take advantage of its benefits.
Also, just like its predecessor, this switch was more of a hinderance than an advantage given the slightly higher actuation point.
However, just like with typing, these switches performed very smoothly and consistently throughout all my gaming sessions.
Overall, they were pleasant to game with even if I didn’t benefit from any of their advantages, but I can see them being liked by more competitive gamers.
Final Score = 32/50 (64%)
